When we see a student that is going down a generational path that brings darkness, God can bring a new light. Typically, a blessingis passed down from generations past, but in this story, we see a blessing being passed from a grandson to a grandmother. Alonzo Lopez joined the Powered for Life class from STARS Accelerated High School. He presented himself as a

challenged high school student with a negative outlook on his future. He was involved with the wrong crowd and following a challenging generational family dynamic.

When he first came to class he never smiled or showed any sense of joy. Life for Alonzo just seemed predestined. When asked why he never smiled he stated that in his world you had to look tough.

Upon discovering his talents through the career assessment, he was excited to see

all the natural skills with which he was blessed. For the first time ever, he was able to express excitement about his value with a huge smile. The rest is history as he moved into a new beginning. Alonzo’s infectious smile dominated his presence, and he started a journey of discovery and creating a roadmap for his future. He presented to the Stars Council asking for a grant to pursue a career at a technical school and was awarded this opportunity. He now attends Texas State Technical College in Waco.

Several weeks after his graduation from Powered for Life, Alonzo’s grandmother, Valentina Lopez paid a visit to Forward Training Center. She was expressed that a miracle occurred in their family. The family had given up hope for their grandson due to the road he was traveling, and they had never seen him smile before. Valentina decided that if her grandson could make this transition in his life, she could as well. She recently graduated from the Jobs for Life program and looking forward to a new career.

At Forward Training Center we are in the business of transforming lives through God’s grace.
