Volunteers are the core of Forward Training Center (FTC). We need both men and women to fulfill a myriad of functions. They provide leadership, spiritual support, instruction and training, guidance and direction, administrative help, logistical support and custodial support. Regardless of your talents and abilities, there is a place for you at FTC.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Instructor

For the Jobs for Life Class.  Two classes a year.   Each is an eight-week program.  Held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 AM to noon at the FTC office in Granbury.  Instructors will receive training from National Jobs for Life and local instructors.  This is an opportunity to see firsthand transformation as you work closely with students in an interactive classroom setting.

Mentor

For the Jobs for Life Class. Two sessions a year. Each is an eight-week program held in the Fall and the Spring. Classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 AM until noon. Mentors receive training from Jobs for Life National and local mentors. This is an opportunity to have a one-on-one relationship to become a personal cheerleader for the student while experiencing transformation in an interactive classroom setting.

Computer class assistant or instructors

We teach Microsoft Word, Excel, basic computer, internet, and email classes and QuickBooks. This position would assist and occasionally fill in for our computer teachers. To assist only being familiar with these programs is adequate. If you are proficient in these areas, we have openings for instructors.

Meals for class pick-up and delivery

Pick up food from our food sponsor, Kroger two times per week for eight weeks in the morning at 9 AM and transport it to the FTC classroom for the Jobs for Life Class. This assignment can be combined with the one below.

Open classroom and make a walk thru to assure the restrooms and building is tidy.

During the eight-week Jobs for Life Class, ensure the classroom and restrooms are fresh and clean. Open the door of the center at 9 AM. Do a walk through that morning. Also, after class ends (noon), check to see that classroom and restrooms are tidy. Empty trash, lock the door. This assignment can be shared by multiple volunteers to spread out the responsibility. This assignment can also be combined with the one above.

Receptionists

Receive visitors at the and answer the phone to take messages and open and close the office as needed. This volunteer would provide coverage in Building A while staff is out of the office and assist staff with greeting guests and giving out application to prospective students. At times, this would require unlocking the front door, clearing the security alarm, and might be asked to close the office at 5 PM, lock the door, and set the alarm.

JFL Graduation Team

These volunteers will set up at the First Christian Church for JFL graduation by placing out tablecloths and preparing a serving table with punch, cupcakes, napkins, and a flower arrangement (we use one that is in our decoration closet) by 4 PM the night of graduation. They would order the cupcakes and purchase and prepare the punch. (FTC pays for all expenses), Graduation is held twice a year.

Site Leader

For Jobs for Life this person will open the class and be a support for mentors, instructors, and students during the eight-week program. Held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 AM to noon at the FTC office in Granbury, twice a year.

Outreach to other nonprofits for class referrals / Materials Drop Off

These volunteers will take materials (class schedules, business cards, flyers, etc.,) to VIPs around Hood County. There is a list of these folks at the FTC office. This is also an outreach opportunity for volunteers who like to interact with our county’s officials and businesspeople as ambassadors for Forward Training Center. Training will be provided.

Landscape

There are bushes outside the front of the FTC building that need tending to on occasion. Someone who loves gardening and has a hedge trimmer can enjoy making our building look wonderful.

Prayer Chain

A chain of folks who will pray for FTC volunteers and staff as requests are known. Contact Volunteer Team Captain to begin chain.

Inventory

If you love office supplies…we have a spot for you. Can you inventory our office supplies? As needed.

Events

Set-up for event, facilitate, prep, and clean-up after FTC events. Choose the event that works with your schedule. Have fun and meet other volunteers.

Student Counselor

Experienced professional, can be retired to talk to students as needed.

Donor Team Captain

Maintain list of Forward Training Center donors. Work closely with the FTC Board President and FTC Director. Coordinate appreciation and outreach for donors.

Youth Leaders

Passionate about investing in young people. Will work with our Powered for Life program for 15- to 18-year-old youth’s program with STARS and Premier High School students.

Career Placement Team

Connects job seeking graduates with business job postings. And utilizes WorkerSpring platform to connect job seekers with job postings
