Testimonies

Mindy Hodges (CWJC Guest Speaker, Executive Director of Hood County Senior Center)
I enjoy sharing my story and teaching at CWJC. I want to let women know there is a God who loves them and to encourage them that they have a way out of the difficult circumstances they may find themselves facing. It’s not an easy road, but it is well worth the effort.

Coming home after being turned down for yet another job because I lacked computer skills was devastating. I was very discouraged. Then, as I was praying, I happened to glance up and see the Christian Women’s Job Corps sign with the phone number . . . When I found out that the classes were held in Granbury and the cost was free, I knew that was the answer I was looking for. CWJC provided Bible study, mentoring and an education in life and job skills. I experienced growth, enrichment, support and encouragement.

CWJC has enabled me to clarify my vision academically, emotionally and spiritually…

The most important decision I have made was coming to CWJC. It has really changed my life. Before coming to this program, I was at the lowest point in my life. I had hit rock bottom. There was no place to go but up. Making the choice to come to CWJC was the right thing to do.

Sometimes the things we expect the most turn out to be the things we need the least. When I came into the CWJC program, I expected to be taught more about computers. What I am leaving with, however, is a whole lot more . . . I learned more about myself here than I guess I ever knew, which is more than I expected . . . a better understanding on how to study the Bible, how to grow spiritually and how to have a stronger walk with God, as well as language arts, money management, career skills and basic computer skills. I also learned how to place boundaries that will help in my life.

Christian Women’s Job Corps has done so many things for my life. This program has provided the foundation for a new freedom and a new happiness. When I first started here I was lost inside and had a feeling of hopelessness. I have gained more confidence and I am able to believe in myself. Also, the skills I have obtained from computer class, language arts and finance class I will be able to use the rest of my life.

CWJC has been so much more that I imagined. Not only has my knowledge been expanded, my relationship with the Lord has grown beyond my expectations. There are not enough words to express my thanks to everyone who plays a part in CWJC.

Being accepted into Christian Women’s Job Corps has been a turning point in my life . . . After twenty-one years I am finally graduating from a school to prove to myself that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me and also to prove to my children and others that when you walk with God anything is possible. It’s never too late to better yourself.

The support I received through CWJC gave me the hope and confidence to obtain the future that I never dreamed possible.

I came to CWJC wanting to learn to write a resume and to have something to put on it. It was a trivial, superficial reason, but it got me to the door. I wanted other people to be proud of me. It never occurred to me to be proud of myself. God had a plan, though . . . I learned so much more than I expected. I learned about God’s mighty power, the power of prayer and about letting the good in . . . I would like to go back to school and become a teacher or a counselor.

JJ Mainord (Volunteer, former Mentor and Board Member)
Our Lord has given me the gift of hospitality. So by being on the CWJC Board, a mentor and receptionist, I have been able to use this gift. What a joy to be “God’s little hands and feet” in this ministry.

Sandra Tate (CWJC Bible Study Teacher & former Mentor)
I became involved with CWJC from the beginning as a prayer partner and had the tremendously rewarding experience of being a mentor for one semester. As a Bible study leader now for three years it has been such a joy to watch the lives of CWJC participants transform before my eyes. Each class experience and the relationships they develop start them on the road to maturity, self-confidence and a growing trust in the God. Being involved with CWJC is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I am deeply grateful, as well as humbled, that God has called me to be a part of this ministry.

Earline Wood (Volunteer Receptionist)
I like the idea of helping women who need help and are willing to work . . . The Christian based format makes it successful . . . It is so rewarding to see and hear the ladies testimonies at graduation . . . It takes just my time and love of Christ to volunteer at CWJC . . . The ones it helps always makes a difference . . . When the mother of a family experiences the Word of God everyone is affected, maybe just in attitude . . . If we can put one woman to work it matters because she may help someone else . . . The graduation night . . . The dedicated staff and teachers . . . The style show with the graduates’ testimonies should motivate some people to volunteer.

I am doing great. Times are hard sometimes, but with the help of God I am always able to make it through. I just wanted to remind you how much I appreciate everything that you all did for me. You are a wonderful, wonderful group of ladies! You are all gifts from God! I am still a member of a local church which has truly been a blessing for me and my family! The kids and I go every chance we can get. I just can’t get enough. I can’t wait for Wednesday’s and Sunday’s just so I can go to church. I haven’t ever felt the way that I do with my walk with Jesus, it is an unexplainable feeling, but I know that He is with me wherever I go. I am head person over the kitchen at my church, I set up all of the fellowship dinners, weddings, funerals, etc. I am really loving it! I am trying to get more involved–that way I can meet people who are right for me and the kiddos. Today is 1 year and 4 months that I have been sober. I also quit smoking cigarettes. It has been 5 weeks. During the 3rd week I smoked one cigarette and it was bad enough that I won’t ever smoke another one. AMEN! . . . I quit because of my kids. I am all that they have and if something happens to me because of something that I could have prevented I’m not sure that I could ever live with that. So I quit, no patch, no gum, nothing but will power and the help of GOD! My God is an awesome God!

I am 71 years old. I quit school at the age of 16. . . I enrolled in CWJC and am proud that I did. . .Don’t think that because you are old you can’t learn anything.

This program has offered many great classes, teachers, volunteers, guest speakers, board members and staff. I have enjoyed them all and have learned more these twelve weeks than I ever thought I would. I loved how every morning we would start off with Bible study and prayer. In all the classes I was taught something new and useful. After graduation I plan on entering Weatherford college to earn my physiology degree then, hopefully, one day having my own practice so that I might reach children who may be hurting. My goal in this is to be able to save a child’s life by being someone they can trust, talk to and confide in.
